The adoption day is the easy day. The first year is the adoption — the separation work, the behaviourist nobody budgeted for, the food sensitivity that turns out to be chicken rather than anxiety.
We ask everyone who writes for this section to include the part that was hard. A shelf of uncomplicated success stories sends people home unprepared, and they are the adoptions that come back.
The Athens Animal Welfare Society runs adoption days at the Exarchia shop on the first Saturday of most months.
