Wet or dry? The water content is the argument that holds up.

Cats descend from a desert animal with a weak thirst drive. Prey is roughly 70% water; dry food sits around 8%, wet food around 78%. Most cats never make up that gap by drinking, and over years it shows up as concentrated urine — the background condition for the two things that fill emergency clinics.

Eleni’s recommendation after five thousand consults: wet food as the main meal, kibble as the measured top-up and enrichment portion. Count the kibble into the daily calories rather than treating it as free.

Diagnosed kidney disease, a history of urinary crystals, or diabetes all move the recommendation firmly toward wet. If your cat has any of those, have the food conversation with your vet rather than with a shop page.
